Citational Justice

Citational Justice is not a new concept. Scholars have noticed, commented on, and studied the citational inequity for over 40 years. If you are interested in examining the impact of exclusionary citational practices, the readings below are a great place to start.

Tools for building a citational justice practice

Dr. Wendy Belcher has worked to operationalize some of the tenets of citational justice to help researchers and writers to build their own praxis.

Positionality

The concept of researcher positionality (how the social/political/economic context that helps crate our identity impacts the way we understand and experience the world) is not new, though the practice of writing positionality/reflexivity/identity statements has recently spread beyond the fields of anthropology and sociology where they are common practice.

Positionality and citational justice are entwined concepts and it might be helpful to explore positionality as you think about crafting your citational justice statement.
