Searching for Books

Williams Library Catalog
To search for materials available in the Williams libraries.

SEARCH STRATEGIES:

  • Use the Advanced Search  and search in the Subject field

  • Library of Congress Subject Headings include:
    • Latin American Literature
    • Latin American Literature - History and Criticism
    • Spanish American Literature (lists works on the Spanish literature of Latin America)
    • Latin American Fiction
    • Latin American Poetry
    • Latin American Drama

  • You can also search for the names of authors as subjects to find books about them.
Because of the complex syntax of names as Subject Headings, it is best to always use the Advanced search and search for keywords in the Subject field. If you go directly to the Subject search, you need to know the exact syntax for each name and it is not always intuitive! For example,  the subject Juana Ines de la Cruz is Juana Inés de la Cruz, Sister, 1651-1695.  And the subject for Garcilaso de la Vega is Vega, Garcilaso de la, 1503-1536.
