Provides citations and annotations for published primary documents, bibliographies and other reference works, historiographies, overviews and general works, biographical studies, and books and articles. See Chapter 23: The United States, the Vietnam War, and Its Consequences, by David L. Anderson.
Contains bibliographic essays in seven areas: general background and primary sources; strategy of the war; conduct of the war; Indochinese history, minorities and the war; the home front and American culture; and aftermath of the war.
Contains an overview historical narrative (86 pages), short A to Z entries, a chronology, annotated bibliography of sources, and a selection of primary documents. A good starting place for an overview and direction for further research.
Contains in-depth interpretive essays on American perspectives, antiwar movement, art and literature, colonialism, diplomacy, media and the war, prelude to U.S. combat intervention, strategy and tactics, Vietnam, and Vietnamese perspectives. Also has shorter articles on people and events of the war. Articles have bibliographies for further reading.
Volumes 1 and 2 provide A to Z arrangement of biographies, descriptions of warfare and weapons systems, and entries analyzing the involvement of various nations in the conflict, the U.S. home front, and Vietnam-related literature and film. Entries have references for further research. Volume 3 contains documents on government policies.
