Williams Library Catalog

The Williams library catalog is a search engine that lists all the books, videos in the library. It also provides links to articles  from selected library databases and citations to articles in the library databases or beyond (to request through interlibrary loan).

To limit your searches to books, you can either

  • Select the search option All Items at Williams (this will exclude articles)
  • Conduct a general search, then from the search results list you can select the filter for Material Type "Books".  If you want print books only, you can even select the filter "Held by the Library
  • Start with the Advanced Search mode and select the Resource Type "Books"

There is no way to limit results to scholarly books. You need to review each book and look at the type of publisher (academic or trade) and the credentials of the author.

How to find print books in the stacks?

Beyond Williams: Worldcat

Use Williams Worldcat to search for books and films beyond the Williams libraries.

  • Search by author, title, subject the same way you search the Williams Library Catalog
  • If the book you find is not at Williams, request it by clicking on Request Item
  • Use the Advanced Search to create more effective searches
