ECON 213: Intro to Environmental and Natural Resource Economics: Citing

Citing

Why do we cite? To give credit to the intellectual labor and property of others, to seat our work in the scholarly conversation of our discipline, to provide evidence for our arguments, and to provide the necessary information for others to find and evaluate your sources in order to replicate, critique, or build on your work.

To that end, Professor Jacobson is less concerned with the minutiae of citation and more concerned with accuracy and completeness. Make sure your citations allow the reader to find the original work cited. Here are some tools to help you do just that:

  • The American Economic Association uses the Chicago Manual of Style Guide Author-Date format for citations.
See the Williams Citation Guide and the AEA Sample References for information on formatting your in-text citations and references list.
  • Information about Citations Tools that can help you keep track of your research, easily add in-text citations to your writing, and format your references.
