HIST 391: When India was the World

Focuses on providing free online access to significant primary materials, including manuscripts, maps, rare books, recordings, films, prints, photographs, architectural drawings, and other types of primary sources from UNESCO member countries. Covers all time periods.

Presents the history of the Indian Ocean through maps and primary sources covering 7 eras of world history. Although created for middle and high school teachers and students, the site is good for getting an overview of topics and some possible primary sources.

Online exhibit from the New York Public Library contains essays, images, maps, and a bibliography.
