Library Streaming Videos: Streaming of Library-Owned Films

Streaming Services

How we offer streaming content

When we digitize library-owned films

  • Only for course use
  • Only when we are unable to secure licensed streaming access
  • Only when the film license does not prohibit duplication and/or streaming

If you want to use a streaming film in your teaching, place a request through the library catalog or Suggest A Purchase form.

For each request, the library will research streaming rights to determine whether we can legally provide a streamed version.

  • If a streamed version is available, we will add it to your GLOW Course.
  • If a streamed version is not available and there is no prohibition on duplication of the library-owned DVD, we will digitize the film, make it available through GLOW, and remove the DVD from circulation.
  • If a streamed version is not available and the film's license prohibits duplication:
    • we can put the DVD on Reserve for your course so that students may check it out (along with a DVD drive if needed)
    • you can list the film as required course material so students can use the book grant provided by Student Financial Services to pay for streaming services

What's included in the digitized version:

  • When available, we can include English subtitles for films not in English.  If you do not want subtitles included, check that option in the request form.
  • If you want us to include bonus features, contact the Course Reserves and Streaming Coordinator, after you submit your digitization request.

Start by signing in to the library catalog, then search for the film by title.

  • If the library owns a physical copy of the film:
    • Click "Request Digitization for GLOW"
    • Include your course info and any other details in the request form.
  • If the library owns a native streaming version (with a link in the library catalog), you may either
    • Link to that film directly from your Glow course
    • Click "add this streaming film to your GLOW course"
  • If the library does not own the film:
    • Use the Suggest A Purchase form (we need to purchase a copy because we only stream library-owned materials)
    • Be sure to indicate that it is a priority 1 request and ask for the film to be placed on reserve
    • Answer yes to the streaming question

Turn around time

It takes time for us to process your request, so please place your request at least two weeks before you need it.

If you've had items on course reserve in the past, we'll get in touch with you to see which items you'd like to use again. If you don't get an email with a list of items to renew, and think you should have, please reach out to Mary Dzbenski, Course Reserves and Streaming Coordinator.
